Emily was elusive and she needed your knowledge, even if you were ignorant.
how do you eulogize someone who refuses definition?
emily was feckless at times, unable to ease her madness, her sensitivity to the subtle psychological contexts in which people live.
she was so imbued with sadness, unable to shake off her realizations and unable to acknowledge that she was solely an individual, and not responsible for human suffering.
emily became paralyzed shoulders down after suffering from what you could realistically call depression. she went along with the doctors, killing off cells in her body to heal. she had sex with a man she didn't love on a regular basis. and she started walking.
but then the doctors said she wasn't a miracle. it's the chemotherapy. and the sex got lousy.
emily became paralyzed again.
the sex didn't get better. the doctors got annoying.
so emily decided she didn't need sex. or doctors.
she started breathing deeply. and realized she needed help.
the psychologist finally summoned up the balls to tell emily: "you really need an antidepressant."
"you machiavellian cunt!" emily thought.
Paxil saved her senses. "zeitgeist!!" emily thought.
and she started walking again.
"it's easy as pie" she would tell her mother. "i think i can walk, therefore, i can walk."
i hestitate to question whether she can walk again, but we know emily is a miracle, alive, dead, or walking.
